A Life of Loss

Some people choose a life of loss. What does it mean? There are people that live a life full of bitterness because of things that happened to them in the past. They are people who decided to let the seed of bitterness grow in their hearts over the years, always remembering about the disappointments they had.

However, the Bible tells us to walk in love. In John 13:34, Jesus gave the following command: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another”. But how can we walk in love? What does it mean?

When you accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord and the Saviour of your life, your spirit was reconnected to the Spirit of God. His Spirit started to dwell inside of you. Thus, you have received His Spirit as your counselor and your guide to walk through life. He can help you to make decisions and to face life. That way, a life walking in love is a life guided by the Spirit, as it is written in Galatians 5:16: “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh”.

The flesh wants to be resentful over things that happened in the past. The flesh has that retaliation desire. It wants revenge. However, the Spirit wants to show you a better way of living. A life of liberty, in which you are not a slave of feelings that consume your soul and that drains all of your energy. A life of loss is a life bounded by the strongholds of resentment. And, unfortunately, when you yield to resentment, you stop living to the fullest.

The life of a resentful person revolves around a prejudice that was suffered, like a wound that never heals. This person has those feelings stocked inside; every thought and actions come with a remembrance of what was suffered. It is like a prison. And, that way, little by little, this person becomes bitter. Sour with life and with others. There is the constant feeling of not being comprehended, of not being understood by others. There is always a reason to complain.

However, life does not need to be that way. As I said, when you overflow with the love of God, you experience freedom from resentment. There is a popular Christian song that says:

I don’t have time to maintain these regrets when I think about the way that He loves us“.

Please, consider for a minute this amazing truth. God loves us! He loves us so much that He gave His Son to save our lives. We deserved nothing, but He decided to give us everything. With undeserving love, He gave us a new opportunity of life. That should be enough for us to dedicate our lives to Him, without yielding to fleshly desires. If you decide to be guided by the Spirit, you can actually love others, because you can experience His love and grace in your life.

And living a life guided by the Spirit and by His love is much better! You do not need to waste your time trapped in the bondage of anger and resentment. Your actions, thoughts and feelings do not need to be stuck nor guided by situations that happened with you in the past. You are not defined by what people have said about you!

You are now justified by God Himself. You became His son or daughter the moment you accepted Him inside of your heart. That is enough! You are free to live for Him! You are free to be guided by Him! You are free to live to praise Him with all of your being. And He wants you to be victorious! He wants you to do mighty things in His name!

A resentful person is someone who waste all energy meditating over some suffered prejudice. Instead of moving forward, this type of person is too busy focused on being resentful. There is no development in any area of life, just frustration. We were not created for a senseless life! We were created to praise His glory.

So, instead of living a life of loss, you can decide right now to live a life guided by the Spirit. Let the love of God flood your soul and influence your actions and feelings. You were made for more! You were made to be united with God!
