This means that we have God’s mind inside of us and it empowers us to pray effectively.

God made us the temple of the Holy Spirit, this way we can access Heaven inside of us, independently of what happens outside. Praying in tongues is one of these tools that are available for us. Even though tongues have a lot of benefits we will focus on tongues for personal edification.

1 Corinthians 14:2-4

“For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious. But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.”

When we pray in tongues we can’t understand with our minds what we are saying, but we are strengthening our spirit because the Holy Spirit is praying to God through us. If you feel weak this is a good way to be empowered! Through praying in tongues God can intercede through us for our goodness or for other people as well. When we pray in tongues the Spirit himself prays through us a perfect prayer. He uses our mouth to express what Heaven has for us or for others that we can’t see naturally.

Does this mean that we don’t need to use our understanding to pray? No! We need to pray for the things we already know. For example: I’m going to work and I know I have an important meeting. I need to pray for that meeting with the knowledge I already have about it and then I can pray in tongues, because I don’t know about other things that can happen in my day. This way the Holy Spirit has the opportunity to pray through me for things that I don’t know yet.

Don’t waste the opportunity to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit today! Give Him the space to help you with things that you will need in the future and you don’t know now. Include this habit in your daily devotional and you will see how effective it will be.

If you had God’s mind and could see the future as clear as the present, how would your prayers be?
